Support for carers (Health in Mind)

Availability : Edinburgh Wide

Provided by: Health in Mind

Who is this for?

  • Unpaid carers aged 18 years old and over who live in Edinburgh.

Description

We know that caring for others, whether that’s your friends, family members, or neighbours, can be isolating and difficult. It is often hard for carers to find the time to take care of themselves and connect with others too.

That’s why Health in Mind are delivering support for carers as a partner in the Carewell Health and Wellbeing Partnership. This partnership is a joint initiative between ourselves, VOCAL EdinburghEric Liddell Centre and Milan Senior Welfare.

Health in Mind are offering a range of support services, including 1:1 support, wellbeing drop-ins and peer spaces to support the mental health and wellbeing of carers. These safe spaces will allow carers the time to explore and discover ways of keeping well and to be able to connect to a wider community of carers and engage in peer support.

1:1 Service

We offer 10 weekly sessions for unpaid carers who are feeling low, anxious or isolated and would like to focus on enhancing their wellbeing and building up good mental health habits through self – management and coping strategies.

Support will be focused around 4 areas:

  • mental health (supporting people in finding ways to be mentally and emotionally happy and well)
  • self management (supporting people in finding tools and strategies to manage their health and wellbeing)
  • purpose and direction (supporting people in making choices that are in line with their values and in engaging in activities they find meaningful)
  • valuing yourself (supporting people to build up confidence and prioritise self-care)
