Thrive Welcome Teams

Edinburgh’s new Thrive Welcome Teams can support you to access the right support for your mental health.

Each Thrive Welcome Team has friendly, skilled, and experienced mental health practitioners. The team members work closely together, in a collaborative and supportive way to think about ways in which they can help and support you.

They will give you a warm welcome, putting you and your needs at the very centre of the support they offer you. The teams can see people aged 18 – 64 years.

Who is Thrive Welcome Team suitable for?

People come to us for support for a variety of factors which may be affecting your mental health including:

  • Help to manage their emotions
  • Feeling anxious
  • Having low confidence
  • Feeling lonely and isolated
  • Having difficulties in their relationships
  • Experiencing feelings of low mood, and depression
  • Carers’ mental health and wellbeing
What happens when I’m introduced to the Welcome Team?

A team member will get in touch with you to arrange an initial conversation or you can meet one of the mental health practitioners at the drop ins (see below for more information). This first conversation will be a chance to talk about your concerns and start thinking about what might help you.

What will happen after the initial conversation?

During the initial conversation an agreed method of communication and contact will be established on how best to provide your support. This first conversation will be a chance to talk about your concerns and to start thinking about what might help you. You will be supported to think about what will be helpful to you and how the team can support you.

What support can you offer me?

This might include any of the following:

  • Help you to find new ways of coping with managing anxiety, low mood or distressing emotions you may be feeling
  • Link you into other services including housing, carers support or employability, so you receive the right support at the right place
  • Connect you to services and supports in your local community or in other parts of Edinburgh. This might include support groups, counselling, well-being courses, physical activities and outdoor activities in local green places.

And where needed, and if it’s right for you, to introduce you to specialist support

How long does support from the Welcome Team last if we feel after the conversation we are the best team to support you?

This can vary depending on what you agree with the worker. The Thrive Welcome Team is designed to deliver a short-term intervention with people (usually 6-8 sessions) to help identify areas of work that are important to them.

What is really important is once someone has been supported by the Team, they can come back – we will be here if you need us again.
