Staying Connected and Supported This Winter with LifeCare

Winter can be a challenging time, especially for older people or those feeling isolated. At LifeCare Edinburgh, we’re here to make the colder months brighter, warmer, and more connected for our community.

Winter can be a challenging time, especially for older people or those feeling isolated. At LifeCare Edinburgh, we’re here to make the colder months brighter, warmer, and more connected for our community.

Our Meals on Wheels service is at the heart of this support. Each day, freshly prepared, hot and nutritious meals are delivered to older people across the city, with 60% provided free to those on low incomes. But it’s not just about the food. Every delivery brings a vital check-in, friendly conversation, and reassurance for people who might otherwise feel isolated.

John, 77, who receives Meals on Wheels twice a week, says:

Beyond the support delivered to people’s homes, LifeCare’s Community Hub (2 Cheyne Street, Edinburgh EH4 1JB) offers plenty of ways to stay active, social, and engaged throughout winter. Our activities include:

  • Saturday Social – enjoy warmth, free hot meals and drinks, companionship and activities with others at the weekend.
  • Chatty Café – drop in on a Monday 11-1 for a friendly catch-up and conversation. Come on your own and meet new friends or bring a pal and meet others together!
  • Creative Workshops, Games Clubs and History Talks – take part in crafts, group activities, meet others and learn something new!
  • Unpaid Carers wellbeing activities – take part in a watercolour class, a dance session or even enjoy a haircut or a massage all designed to help unpaid carers take a break. · You can explore all our activities here – all our activities are free thanks to ScottishPower Foundation, the National Lottery Community Fund and Shared Care Scotland.

And don’t forget our wonderful community café, CafeLife, is open Monday-Friday serving affordable good food and hot drinks in a warm, accessible and friendly space. Come and visit us at 2 Cheyne Street, Edinburgh, EH4 1JB.

Our team believes that small moments of connection – a warm meal, a friendly chat, a shared laugh in a craft class – can make a big difference during the winter months. Whether you’re participating in our activities, receiving Meals on Wheels, or supporting someone who does, LifeCare is committed to keeping people nourished, engaged, and supported.
