  • The Welcoming’s services are available to adults only (18+)

Description

The Welcoming Association welcomes New Scots (migrants, refugees and asylum seekers) to Edinburgh, helping them build community and learn important skills.

We offer several different services:

  1. English classes (free classes from beginner level to upper-intermediate, both face-to-face and Zoom)
  2. Employability and training support (one-to-one support and skills development workshops for groups)
  3. Community fridge (members can collect donated food)
  4. Friendship (lots of community groups and health and wellbeing activities to help members build a social network in Edinburgh)
  5. Home Energy Advice (one-to-one support to help members understand their energy bills and reduce gas and electricity costs).
  6. Signposting to other sources of support

Location information

The Welcoming accepts new members living in the Edinburgh postal district (EH1 – EH55). Some in-person activities run from The Welcoming’s office, and others are held in different locations around the city. We also offer online English classes for those who can’t attend in-person classes.

  • Westfield Avenue bus stop is a 3 min walk for buses 1, 2, 22 and 30
  • Gorgie Park Road bus stop is a 7 min walk for buses 3, 25, 33 and 38
  • Haymarket train station is a 30 min walk
  • There are bike racks directly outside our entrance

Opening times

The Welcoming’s reception is open for general enquiries and new registrations Monday to Friday, between 9am and 2pm.

Classes and activities are scheduled at different time throughout the week. Details can be found on the timetable.
