A chat with SupportED

We spoke to Emily from SupportED to hear about they work they do and how she keeps herself well.

SupportED is Scotland’s Community Eating Disorder Charity. The organisation was set up in 2011 in memory of Linda Tremble, who lost her battle with anorexia. We provide in-person and online support for people with eating disorders and the family and friends who support them. We provide support throughout recovery and afterwards. If you are over 18, you can use any of our services anytime; we do not require a diagnosis.

Our goal is to provide a welcoming, non-judgmental environment where people can share their experiences with those on a similar recovery journey. We provide peer-led support groups where individuals can find a like-minded community with whom they can discuss their successes and challenges. We also provide a Befriending service, where those who wish to partake are matched with a trained volunteer with whom they chat weekly.

Many of our staff and volunteers have lived experienced of an eating disorder. We understand the difference a supportive, listening ear can make. It can sometimes be difficult
to open up to friends and family who may not have lived experience. We offer an opportunity
for people to meet with others and share their journey with those who have had similar
experiences.
We know that there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding eating disorders. We provide
eating disorder training for professionals, schools, sports clubs, and the wider community.
We hope that one day, everyone will have an understanding of eating disorders and how
best to support a loved one who is on their recovery journey.
