Description
This facilitator-led yoga for pregnancy sessions offers a unique approach to enjoying your pregnancy, preparing for the birth of your baby and for parenthood.
The sessions begin with a relaxing meditation. This is followed by yoga which focuses on breathing awareness and letting go of tension and life’s stresses and strains. It also includes yoga postures and movements designed to relieve pregnancy symptoms, enhance wellbeing and the connection with your baby. It’s an opportunity to get to know your own body and tap into your own resources and knowledge. The sessions conclude with a facilitated discussion around pregnancy, birth and early parenting topics, guided by the interests of the women in each group. These discussions allow you to develop your knowledge, get to know others in the group, and share experiences if you want to.
These sessions are special because the centre’s knowledge of birth and local maternity services is integral to what is offered; each facilitator is both trained and experienced in birth education and running groups.
The groups are inclusive and welcoming, with lots of pillows, stools, yoga balls, blocks and mats.
The approach taken in these groups makes yoga safe for all women whether they are new to yoga or not. Women can join at any stage of pregnancy and with their first or subsequent pregnancies.
Benefits of yoga for pregnancy
The yoga for pregnancy sessions contribute to good overall health, reduced anxiety, increased confidence and building supportive networks. The groups help you to prepare for a positive birth. Some women find that they sleep better, and feel relief from common pregnancy symptoms such as heartburn, backache, cramp, swollen feet and poor posture.
Pregnancy can be quite an emotional journey. These sessions aim to help you feel safe and calm as you meet these challenges. Consequently, babies benefit too.

Is there a cost?
Yoga for pregnancy sessions are offered on a donation system because the Pregnancy and Parents Centre is a not-for-profit charity. The suggested donation for 6 consecutive weeks is usually £75.
Please note that the Pregnancy and Parents Centre never turn anyone away due to financial restrictions and so if you feel this is unaffordable, please still get in touch.
