Description
Deaf Action is a deaf-led charity that supports and celebrates deaf people. We were established in 1835 and work with deaf people across Scotland and the South of England. Our work is geared towards empowering all deaf people to achieve their potential and fully participate in society, with equality of rights, access and opportunity.
What we do
We offer health and wellbeing support, because we know how difficult it can be to look after your mind and body. You might be feeling lonely, anxious, frustrated, or maybe you are feeling worried about your finances or work.
Our Wellbeing Service for deaf people is made up of:
- Counselling
- Befriending
- Health & Wellbeing events
Counselling
We offer confidential counselling to support you through difficult times. Remember it is ok to feel a bit worried, scared or sad – that’s what counselling is for. Sharing your concerns and talking with someone about the current situation can make a huge difference.
Our fully qualified Counsellors can deliver sessions in either BSL or English, so whatever language you use, you are welcome.
Our counselling sessions are usually done through Zoom, FaceTime or other video calling software, but in-person sessions can be discussed upon request.
Befriending
We know how lonely life can be at any age. If you or someone you know could do with a friendly face to chat to, our befriending service can help you meet new people with similar interests and communication preferences for conversation and companionship.
Deaf BSL users, deafened, deafblind, and hard of hearing adults (18 and over) are all welcome to use our befriending service. This service is available in English or BSL, so no matter what language you use, we’ll connect you to the right people.
Health & Wellbeing events
We offer a range of health & wellbeing events through the year. These range from talks on important health information and mental health support groups to social events to combat isolation.
If you want to find out more about these events, please email us.
