Who is this for?

  • People aged 16 years old and over with mental health difficulties


The Alma Project uses the arts as a therapeutic tool to support people with mental health difficulties.

It provides weekly, therapeutic art groups that can provide you with a safe space, time, resources and support. The groups can help to reduce isolation and keep you healthier for longer.

The Alma Project provides 4-5 groups per week facilitated by community art workers and supported by volunteers. Groups are generally in visual art, specific art media or craft, creative writing and drama. The project also hosts outings, social events, exhibitions and performances.

Art and Nature – Mondays 1-3pm (12 weekly sessions, 25 April – 11 July 2022) at Craigentinny Community Centre, 9 Loaning Road, EH7 6JE.  Enter by a flight of 11 steps at the back of the building. 

Art and Nature will include a range of outings to various places in nature where you will create artworks or writing inspired by the nature around you.  You will generally meet at the outing venue. There will also be some sessions at Craigentinny Community Centre so that you can work further on some of the artworks and themes.

 Art Group – Tuesdays 12-2pm (ongoing) at Craigentinny Community Centre (address as above)  

A relaxed, friendly art group offering time and space for you to develop your own art.  Practical help or tuition is on hand if you would like help.  

Creativity for Well-being – Wednesdays 5 – 6.30 pm (12 weekly sessions, 27 April – 1 June 2022, then Wednesday 8 June – 13 July, 1 – 2.30 pm) online video zoom session (a referral may not be necessary if you only want to attend these Zoom sessions. If you want support for your mental well-being, then this course will give you the space to connect with our feelings and give you the opportunity to express yourself creatively – relaxing and grounding you. We will use various art and creative writing exercises for creative expression.

If you like playing you will love drama!  A chance to play drama games, exercises, improvisations and to create pieces of Forum Theatre  (audience participation sketches) that will be performed across Scotland.  Please email for more info. about time, place and the group:

 Peer chat  – online video zoom session – Fridays 12 -1.30pm (ongoing)

An unstaffed zoom session giving you a chance to chat with your fellow service users.
