Description

Art in Healthcare is working with Art Therapist and Cartoonist Malcy Duff to offer weekly Art Therapy Group sessions for men as part of the Room for Art programme.

In the sessions, art-making is the main form of communication and expression and the sessions will be working in a group space to share experiences that might be helpful. It will combine image-making and psychotherapy to aid awareness, individual growth and address emotional issues that may be distressing or confusing.

Art Therapy is not about making a good picture or being ‘good’ at art. It focuses on exploring materials, such as paint, pens, clay, wood, chalks, and paper to express thoughts and feelings. There is no pressure to share in the sessions if you don’t want to.

It encourages you to look at art and yourself in a different way, helps with communication and use of language, can reduce anxiety and is emotionally relaxing and can help you develop practical coping mechanisms to use in everyday life.
