Description
VOCAL believe that carers are the best experts in their situation. By bringing together a carer and a peer mentor who has experienced a similar caring role and who is willing to share their story, Peer Mentoring provides a space where carers can share these experiences and make positive changes.
Once matched, a Peer Mentor will meet with you over a number of sessions to bring together carers journeys. Through the mentoring relationship, you may gain information and support which could help you to reflect on your own situation and the choices available.
VOCAL values the diversity of relationships and understands that each carer’s journey is unique, and wish to ensure this is reflected in Peer Mentoring. Examples of current Peer Mentoring matches have roles supporting caring situations such as; addictions, parent, dementia, as well as discussing different topics such as transition into a care home, additional support at school, keeping yourself well.
VOCALs Peer Mentors are all volunteers and carers or former carers themselves.
Meetings are currently via telephone or video call and can last anywhere between 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on what works best for you.
