LGBT+ Gambling Support (Cyrenians)

Who is this for?

All LGBTQ+ people over 16 in Scotland are welcome to join us. We welcome the entire diversity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community including non-binary, queer, intersex, asexual people and all identities under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella. We also welcome people who aren’t sure about their sexual orientation/gender identity, or who do not use labels for either.

Description

Homelessness prevention charity, Cyrenians, has teamed up with LGBT Health and Wellbeing to launch a gambling support group. The group, based in Edinburgh, is the first of its kind to exist in Scotland.

Our LGBT+ Gambling support group provides:

• Peer-led support and activities
• Harm reduction and abstinence-based support
• A chance to meet people and make connections
• Support for those in recovery from gambling harm
• Further advice and resources

Purpose/aims:

We hope that the group will provide a vital safe space for LGBTQ+ people to seek support for problem gambling. Also, to allow participants to make new connections with one another through peer support, group activities, and harm reduction and abstinence-based support from the Chances team. Furthermore, it provides those in recovery from gambling harm an opportunity to voice their own lived experience and to offer guidance to others on their recovery journey.

Enquiries and referrals to the group are welcome via email to Chances or by phone at 07983 137239. While the group is a drop-in service and there’s no need to book in advance, we’d ideally encourage people to get in touch beforehand if possible. This helps us prepare and offer the best support.
