Description
get2gether (SC043027) is a community-led membership charity that works to reduce social isolation and increase emotional awareness, resilience and self-determination of adults with disabilities. These objectives are met through the delivery of in-person and online events, courses, employment and volunteering opportunities. get2gether is based across Edinburgh and the Lothians with over 50% of the 1000+ members living in Edinburgh.
Membership is free and open to adults with disabilities and learning difficulties and all members receive a monthly newsletter filled with information about events as well as articles and activities.
“Wellbeing Wednesdays” are a regular feature in their programme in response to deterioration to mental health and loneliness, experienced by adults with disabilities. “Wellbeing Wednesday” events are held both in person and online and include mindfulness walks, seated exercise, men’s mental health spaces and monthly LGBT spaces. Mindfulness is delivered in partnership with Steve Jones from Change Therapy who uses models of mindfulness therapy specifically developed to support the wellbeing of people with disabilities. Other events are led by get2gether members – all people with lived experience of disability.
In person events are delivered out and about Edinburgh, in all different communities where get2gether members live. They use mainstream/public venues and outdoor spaces that are available to all with the aim to introduce members to other resources in their community. Online events are held on zoom.
get2gether are open to working with other organisations and projects from EVOC’s community commissioning to co-deliver more activities that would enhance “Wellbeing Wednesdays” offer.
