Availability : Edinburgh Wide

Who is this for?

  • Anyone who has some form of mobility challenges

Description

HcL Transport provides supported community transport services in Edinburgh and the Lothians. It provides door-through-door services for people with limited mobility who are unable to use ordinary buses and/or suffering a degree of social exclusion due to age, disability, additional support needs, health issues (long or short term) and geographic remoteness. HcL has been providing these services for 39 years supporting thousands of local people.

Drivers not only collect passengers from their front door but help passengers from inside their homes and onto the bus. This can include drivers helping passengers to put their coat on, turning the key to lock their home and assisting them from their home to the vehicle and safely into a seat and fastening their seatbelt. The driver assists you from your seat, off the bus and into your destination. On the return journey, the driver provides the same assistance helping you onto the bus and then into your home. They can also take you shopping from your trolley onto the bus and then off the bus and into your home.

Their services are:

Dial-A-Ride
Journeys are wherever you want to go – medical appointments, meet friends, visit family, shops, church, cinema or theatre, to Waverley or Edinburgh Airport, or group outings. This service is available 7 days a week, 365 days a year including evenings.

Dial-A-Bus
Dial-a-bus provides transport to local shopping centres or supermarkets. The service operates at least once a week from most areas in Edinburgh. The service runs Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. This service restarts in August 2021.

All HcL buses can carry two wheelchair passengers in their wheelchairs. Each bus is fitted with a wheelchair lift at the rear of the vehicle meaning wheelchair passengers do not have to leave their chair to travel and they also face forward.
