Who is this for?

ELoT is aimed at serving Edinburgh. Since we only have one place to work from, we mainly serve Edinburgh North. We require people signing up as members to be over the age of 18. Otherwise, it is open to everyone.

Description

Edinburgh Library of Things (ELoT) is a borrowing service through monthly or annual memberships. Members can borrow items from our inventory for all their regular or one-off needs. We provide a wide range of items including kitchen, cleaning, events, outdoor, travel, and crafting equipment. Alongside that, we run workshops around upcycling and repair.

ELoT is run by Alix and Phoebe. ELoT’s purpose is to help make reducing waste and saving money as easy as possible for people by sharing resources. We care about the planet and our community and aim to be as beneficial to both as possible.

How do I access this?

  • Self referral

Our inventory usage and management is done through myTurn, an inventory management website. People can view our inventory at elot.myturn.com/library, sign up as a member, then select what they want and when they want to pick it up and return it. We run pick up/drop off every Friday at Griffen Fitness, 3 Balfour Street, which is right next to the Edinburgh Tram and several bus routes. Delivery is also available with an extra charge. Items must be reserved the day before by 11am.

Is there a cost?

Monthly membership fee, starting at £5 per month or £40 per year and increasing if people feel able to pay more.

Location information

Our current venue is Griffen Fitness, 3 Balfour Street. The space does not stock items for pick up and It has a small step to get in. We cannot store items at the premises so we cannot offer items for people who walk in.
